Babette's Feast 1987
expected that I'd enjoy this because of how good the source material (a short story by the Danish writer Karen Blixen / Isak Dinesen) is, and wasn't disappointed - it's a pretty straight adaptation, besides the setting being transposed from Norway to bloody Denmark for some reason (which I docked a point for, grrrr).
Camera work and performances all particularly good, especially Stéphane Audrane's warm and charming Babette, and it all adds up to a much more obviously good-natured story…
