    35 mm projection
Thanks to a small-business theater in Minneapolis, I had the rare pleasure of rewatching one of my very favorite movies in theaters via film projection. I had not viewed actual film in at least 15 years, so this was an absolute treat! The quality of the film was a bit scratched up but not enough to distract. Some intriguing ideas to ponder, just not executed all that well. I think the most comforting answer would be that we are living in a simulation inside of Star Wars, being conducted by Jar Jar Binks, the secret sith mastermind. Jar Jar is the key to all of this.

This is one of those kinds of "movies" that are so perfectly, enjoyably bad that they take on a whole new art form and in some cases, lean so far into a half-star, that they bridge the spectrum and crosses over to a 5-star. Nothing outside of those perimeters is an appropriate rating this type of feature. It's truly special. Also, the music actually goes hard for no reason.

Tim Burton's movie-making is at its best when he's not trying to make a Tim Burton movie.
