Night on the Galactic Railroad 1985
“Night in the Galactic Railroad” is too overtly religious to ignore that as the movie’s core, but I think you can take that and stretch it out *just enough* to view the movie also as a depiction of the way a youth has to make sense of the world. Especially as Giovanni — who has a terribly ill mother, a working(?) abroad father, and works while other youth run around and play — experiences tragedy way too early.

Under the Silver Lake toys with viewers' propensity (addiction?) to look for meaning in everything in a movie. In deploying a schmuck-like performance from Andrew Garfield, the movie finds Garfield's character rushing from stereotypical symbol to symbol of conspiracy-like clues — homeless people, music, a wealthy man's death, a video game map, etc. — in hopes of finding a missing love-lust interest.
