Just like a really underwhelming, anticlimactic game of tennis.
(But very impressed by Mike Faist)
A steampunk Frankenstein. Visually, I was mesmerized. Call me a sucker for color, costuming and artistry.
There was definitely a male lens throughout. The interpretation of a woman’s empowerment felt consummately off and off-putting and painfully male. I don’t understand the Oscar talk outside of Emma Stone’s performance. An hour too long.
As a British person, Mark Ruffalo’s British accent was an affront.
The humor was off at times. An attempt at dark and dry humor that I felt missed the mark. My American friends did laugh though…Not The Favorite. Not my favorite.
As the viewer, I felt trapped in the grotesque, clinical quotidian routine of Nazis. It was like a nightmare where I knew the end and I was screaming into the void trying to damn many, warn others but it was all falling on deaf ears.
With film we’re taught to look for the grey characters, the antiheroes - to find humanity. Despite a forcing of the daily life and attempt at a glimpse into these lives, they are still monsters. No grey. Inhuman.
