Film lover from London 🏳️🌈
I only enter films I see at the cinema into my Letterboxd diary
While the (almost) photorealistic animation is to be admired, the rest of this film is a mess of poor choices
- Not enough visual distinction between the two lead Lions
- Uninspired and dull staging of the (surprisingly few) musical numbers
- A MAJOR plot point moment is so badly handled that I honestly didn't even realise it had happened
- I don't know if it is ever possible to convincingly voice "real" animals with this animation style but the voices here just didn't suit the characters in almost all the main roles
- Far too many visits to the framing device scenes
A really enjoyable tightrope walk of a thriller that had me on edge almost from the off
I saw this in 4DX and really enjoyed it. Has the feel of one of those theme park films made feature length. The battles are not as spectacular as those in the Jackson version but this has a rather lovely high end B Movie feel and embraces it.
