    Unfortunately this shit was buns...

I get the sense this movie was trying to do a modern giallo type thing but it really falls through. Of the two scenes memorable enough to say anything about, one of them is way over-the-top nasty and the other is undermined by how boring the rest of the movie is. I'll give the rest of the franchise a chance only because I've heard it gets better from here.

Jeremy Strong has been one of my favorite actors since Succession, and the jump from Kendall Roy to Roy Cohn has really solidified his greatness for me. Not to mention Sebastian Stan literally morphing into Trump as the movie went on… it’s easy to see why his campaign didn’t want this made. So many powerful moments alluding to Trump’s personality today and a pretty sobering way to portray him. Absolutely fantastic propaganda.

This lands in my top three Studio Ghibli films, alongside Princess Mononoke and Kiki’s Delivery Service, and of the many Miyazaki films I’ve seen I think I resonate with this one the most, at least thematically. The idea of finding beauty in something as mundane or complex as designing a plane, even in the midst of a global war; prioritizing relationships over lifelong dreams. I have so much respect for this film for casting off the whimsy of its predecessors in order to tell something even slightly grittier. In my opinion, this is a far better wartime movie than Grave of the Fireflies.
