  Goddamn, man, Jesse Fuckin Eisenberg

  Like Kieran’s great, but he can do what he does in this movie backwards and in high heels. Jesse wrote himself the tricker role, and I just was blown away and floored by how well performance and material were serving each other. Dude made me cry at least 4 times watching this thing. 

  I went into this thing thinking I was going to have a good time with two of our schtickiest actors, but Eisenberg so profoundly transcends the schtick. Cannot wait to see what he does next!

  A triumph beyond triumph. A love story of such oozing, co-abusive toxicity that it would make PHANTOM THREAD blush. A jazz movie that wields it’s white-centric and very bad assumptions about jazz not as an endorsement of those assumptions (as LA LA LAND is, god help it) but as a cypher that helps us see how fundamentally hollow and broken our two characters are, these monsters wrestling around a drum set, who need each other as desperately as they hate and recognize each other. Thrilling. Bloody. Fun. Bleak. I fell in love with it in 2014 and love it still today.
