I found this film hauntingly beautiful. The black and white is beautiful and the bare bones realism keeps it from being pretentious. The film offers no moral lesson or even implied "best practices" for life other than the simple, "keep going." The character of the kid in the film (deftly played by a natural child actor) is perfectly weird in the way kids are. And he is a serious thorn in the side of Joaquin's character's desire to be sad…

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
The height of Wes Anderson. This one has more likable characters from the onset and is one of the most joyful and beautiful depictions of young love and innocence committed to film.

Midnight in Paris 2011
I was utterly charmed by this film. It taps into a universal deep longing for something Other. It lands gently upon a sad hopefulness about living in our own moment. (SPOILER) I think the film could've been braver in its dealings with his present fiance'. She's two-dimensional and awful. The film misses a chance for the main character to make the same discoveries about relationships that he does about time periods.
