what can i say? i'm a sucker for schmaltz, and nobody does it better than capra. that's cause he believes in it, transforming it from schmaltz into something else entirely. he's a regular mr. smith, that guy.
the missing half-star is for the missing scene where smith and saunders neck passionately, whose absence is felt like a gaping wound.

loved mickey's voice. loved how much nasha loved him (and how much he loved her). actually dug ruffalo's voice, too. it's not that far from how musk talks. and neither is the horrific zorro ranch stuff that only emerges for one scene (probably my favourite scene in the whole movie).
i like that there's no subtext at all. they combine all earth's assholes into one guy you really hate, tell him he's stupid to his face, then explode him into a million pieces. that's the kind of wish fulfillment that made superman last a hundred years. and i really needed that!
