  objectively a good movie and i think there’s great romance and pathos in the idea of spontaneous, “before sunrise” moments being defining in a mostly plain (or even disappointing) life, especially when the people here are genuine and try their best to do right. bit too oscars / normiecore for me tho

  (also literally every movie clint eastwood directs starring himself reminds me of this louis c.k bit about matt damon)

  cool as hell; the senseless cityscape looks like a painting here, its inhabitants lost in the cesspool — max with his forever imaginary ideal, vincent with his nihilism that under the guise of understanding, leads him right back to the same shackles. i don’t believe there’s any catharsis, only that max gains the only real thing you can in this world: agency. then, the city moves on, still cold, still unconcerned

  a premise about a troubled man finding love and fixing himself in the process sounds really trite, but it's handled with such off-kilter charm here that it never feels run of the mill. endearing and very sweet :)
