I last watched this at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver. I need to rewatch to iron out my feelings entirely, but like many, the candle scene makes me cry. Trying to hide that from other people was a struggle, but eventually let myself go because art should move. Nostalgia moves.

I think this is about the most punishing live tape I've seen. This was another rewatch for me and it never ceases to amaze me how challenging Big Black still are close to 40 years later. I think Albini talked about how the blood in this show was someone flicking him at him from the audience; not sure whether it was fake or not haha. For the legend I'll choose to believe it…

I keep lowering the stars I've given this every time I consider this film's abysmal and regressive sexual politics. Why do women (and little girls) die for male transgressions? By the end of the film the entire female one-dimensional central cast is dead for no discernible reason other than to punish men. They have no sexual agency unlike Adjani (or even Ryder for that matter). Not to be crass, but for a movie purportedly about a woman recovering from childhood…
