Imagine being sentient but not alive. Seeing and even knowing, but not alive. Just looking out. Recognizing but not being alive. A person can die and still go on. Sometimes what looks out at you from a person's eyes maybe died back in childhood. What's dead in there still looks out. It's not just the body looking at you with nothing in it; there's still something in there but it died and just keeps on looking and looking; it can't stop looking.

Dune 1984
People hate this? Literally how lol. With a battle-pug clutched to his chest, Patrick Stewart declares: "Long live Duke Leto!" Sting wears a bikini bottom thing made out of that looks like two packs of mummified Slim Jims. The soundtrack's great. This is crazy, gorgeous, and fun as hell.
It's been a while since I've seen 2021 Dune--rewatching it is a chore I keep putting off--but I can't remember anything in that that enthralled me like this did.
Man, sometimes I'm thankful I lack any taste. Maybe it helps I read the books a ton growing up.
I'm also (obviously) biased toward Sean Young as Chani.

Movie: [shouting]
Me: [Charlie Day SHUT UP oh my GOD i don't CARE.gif]Another movie in which the titular female protagonist is barely a character and the supposed-to-be-mook is the actual compelling, sympathetic one, kinda like Barbie. Not to diminish Yura Borisov--I liked him--but he's the only one given anything to work with here. He's also the only one to get an exhaled sorta "heh" out of me throughout all the grueling hours of this mess I guess we're calling…
