I saw out Hooptober 2023 with the original and imo, the best of the franchise.

The Lodgers 2017
Hats off to cinematographer, Richard Kendrick for creating some truly gorgeous scenes - this really is a visual feast! Unfortunately, the slow burn of this Irish gothic tale just doesn't deliver.

Little Monsters 2019
I was incredibly disappointed with this Shaun of the Dead wannabe. Unfortunately, the script is poor and gives the male lead none of Shaun's backstory, cues to his redemption or even basic points of relatability, and Alexander England doesn't have the presence to carry a role like this yet. Lupita Nyong'o is utterly wasted here, as are Josh Gad and Kat Stewart. One star for the zombies - they were excellent!

Jess + Moss 2011
I can see why some people wouldn't enjoy this. There is a jarring quality that would be frustrating to lovers of linear narratives. But as an exploration of us all being unreliable narrators of our own stories, I think it's a winner. The cinematography (and particularly the use of grainy filmstock) enhances the dreamy quality of childhood and long hot days evoked memories of my own summers, half a world away.
