The original Road House is a classic.

So naturally I had some reservations about this remake. Gyllenhaal is one of the few actors who can pull this off, I think. Both the role itself (although he is rather dopey at points) and following in Swayze’s footsteps.

I liked the film. They gave a fresh update, less hick-y, and the odd homophobia/queer angst is absent (although for some that’ll be a drawback). Although it does manage to strike a good tone,…

The different nuns embrace their archetypes with gusto—the shy virgin, the jolly rotund nun who’s got going on more than can be contained in her habit, the cranky crone without rhythm who melts under Whoopi’s charm, the stern mother superior who begrudgingly ends up appreciating Whoopi, and of course the nun who’s so hip she’s of course not a nun.

My favourite moment is during the performance of the first song under new management, right before the beat drops. Mother superior looks so surprised, and very pleased with herself. It’s heartbreaking and hilarious and it never fails to make me laugh.

The description I read beforehand suggested a very different film, which can really throw off your enjoyment of the film.

But Medusa Deluxe didn’t care about any of that and drew me in rightaway. I loved how close the camera followed the different characters. The sounds, or lack thereof, enhanced the claustrophobia even more. I loved the group of characters amd the credits scene was an unexpected and delightful highlight.

Hypnotic film, I love the rhythms and repeating patterns. I saw it years ago without knowing the title and the images stuck with me. Amazing and very influential as well.
