Wong Kar-Wai creates worlds I want to live in, and draws characters that I want to be friends with and navigate my life with. This particular story of his was less blatantly artistic than its predecessor "In The Mood for Love", but still wove a tapestry of a relationship between two deeply flawed but relatable people.
An ideal revenge fantasy, Denzel Washington is the film's avatar of vengeance in Tony Scott's well-scored thriller. Dakota Fanning gives a great performance, but the stereotypes of the non-American characters hurts the plot. While satisfying, this movie doesn't rise to the quality of others in the genre.
Wong Kar-Wai's classic creates an ennui of anticipation and remorse as viewers follow two protagonists in loveless marriages and their growing relationship built on brief brushes of intimacy. This movie makes me feel like very few can, and is an absolute gem from start to finish.
