You know how most of the times when one director invents something others watch, then make their own movies perfecting those techniques? Well, thats the exact opposite of what happened to Hitchcock - he did it the first and best, and now the million little geniuses that fill up his movies - from the long pan at the beginning of rear window to the jumpscares in psycho are ripped out of context and have devolved, much like Godard's use of jumpcuts, into something cheap a director would use when he's too lazy to write a good fucking script.
