I know the real focus widely was Kieran Culkins performance (which was great) but I walked away from this more in awe at the direction from Jesse Eisenberg. I could tell this movie was created from a lens of care that brought a simple beauty to something so challenging and often not showcased. In transparency, my a raving review likely partly comes from how fucking good it was but also partly from the deeply personal strings it pulled.

What is an incredible showcase of production design, costume, score, and performance by Emma Stone was outshined by its wannabe empowerment and feminism. The longer I think about this film, the more I feel upset that such a complex and bright eyed character was, in many cases, dumbed down to an overly sexualized character built for the male gaze. Not to mention she! is! a! child!
