7 days later and this film still haunts me. Going in knowing nothing about the movie, I expected the plot to depict the classic revenge story. While it eventually does show some sort of revenge, it goes much deeper into topics like grief, trauma, accountability and redemption. In a rare twist of turns for the genre, the screenplay is also able to humanize the people causing the tragedy and show us the catastrophic consequences one false step will have on…

Wong Kar-Wai always has been a master of capturing dream like scenes between beautiful people but this right here is his masterpiece. Two lost souls that only become alive at night. Circling each other until they can’t resist anymore. Desire, loneliness, love, hate, loyalty, betrayal. Wong Kar-Wai somehow managers to play with all these opposites and brings them together in this memorizing poem.

Two iconic actors. Exceptional production design. And those outfits — unbelievable.

    A perfect movie.

"Even in pain there is beauty."

Find yourself someone who loves you as much as Scandinavian directors love to talk about faith. Unfortunately didn't work out for me as the performance and the pace just left me bored out of my mind.

"Power is the most intoxicating thing in the world."

The Scarlet Empress is a bombastic masterpiece. Every scene is a visual feast, with opulent sets and costumes that seem to explode off the screen. You could pause any frame and hang it on a wall as a work of art. The attention to detail is staggering, each moment packed with lavish design that makes the film feel more like an experience than just a story.

Sure I probably don't get it but whatever. This have been the most boring 3hours I have ever spent on a movie. That Sight & Sound decided to put that on the #1 spot of their "Best Movies of All Time" list is a complete joke and an insult to all the great movies of the past 100 years. The reason for this pick is obviously clear: it was directed by a woman.
