The Tom-and-Jerry comedy is honestly SO funny, when Jaq copies Lucifer opening up folds in the blanket, but he's opening up the folds of Lucifer's fur. The king's dialogue when he screeches out his litany of TREASON! SABOTAGE! THE WHOLE THING WAS A PLOT! Walt really was in the business of entertaining with a side of the most beautiful, absolutely stunning, raw, painterly beauty you've ever seen: the dress transformation, how light spills into a tall Mary Blair room. I mean how does that shit even work, on a still background painting. Cinderella, in the words of Jewels Sparkles, has been Piggy-of-the-Week for 75 mf years.

An interesting drop-off from my very tearfelt experience in theaters, almost a year ago. I think I was just thrilled for a Pixar film to have propulsive energy again. I still love the surface level elements I loved last time: an increase in the bonding time of the core five emotions, no hackneyed attempt to reanimate Joy and Sadness's conflict from the first film, the genuinely beautiful message about accepting and weakening Anxiety in today's smartphone age. Empty philosophizing and meandering melodrama. I felt incredibly disconnected and outright put off by the insane dialogue that was just monologues of self righteousness instead of any kind of meaningful give and take between two self righteous characters. There’s no way either would concede to “listen” for so long. The human soul is too proud to allow for conduit by soliloquy.

I really did not like this. It felt so much like an unpolished reality TV confessional beating me over the head with a hammer of nuclear family philosophy instead of an artwork with something to say about a real relationship.

It’s even worse than I could have possibly imagined. The songs are actively bad and the animation has no art direction. A stain for this to be shoehorned as WDAS and even worse that exhausted parents found their perfect match. Moana, Polynesian culture, and animation all deserve better than this trash.

The plain animation of the background characters made me so angry. The transparency of unimagination is sickening in its boringness.
