Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 2024
Well I think firstly Costner does deserve credit. The film is probably not as bad as people would have you believe.
The world building is done very well. The beauty of the landscapes is really striking in this film, you can kinda just sit back in awe of the backgrounds some times. Perhaps its biggest strength is its ambition. However, that too is likely its biggest weakness.
There are a number of issues. I’m fine with a three hour run…

Why don’t they make films like this anymore?
Yes, it can be a little on the nose, a little rough around the edges at times. However, the scale, action, world-building and stakes more than make up for it.

Dune: Part Two 2024
Fantastic film.
Have to credit the Denis Villenueve here, the world building, cinematography and audio design are off the charts. Managed to make Arrakas seem so real.
Acting is good across the board, disagree partially with the mainstream stance on Christopher Walkin here, he’s not as bad as people are saying. Stand out performances would be Zendaya and Austin Butler.
Perhaps only reason it’s not a perfect five is that the opening can drag a little imo.
