Cruise is playing a boomer here….keeping the American Dream alive for himself while shitting on the younger generations and their dreams.
Ya Tom, it’s going to take a Gen X’er a little bit longer to start his own Fleet car business man. You know what rates were like in 2004? Why don’t you just gift him the money for driving your ass around all night? He can’t afford to live in LA and carry a small business loan
It’s pure greed in plain site Tom, we all see it and know it. Give somebody else a chance man.
A global pandemic forced me into a film watching hiatus. This film brought me back out if it.
The last shot in the film is something so intentionally effective & simple in its composition yet acted with such complexity & grace, that I find it to be one of the most truly memorable film moments of the last ten, even twenty years. I found myself engaged for the entirety of Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Two hours felt like twenty minutes.
One thing that I’ve noticed about Ari Aster with both this & Hereditary is the authenticity of the experiences and stories themselves. There is some beautiful yet batshit crazy imagery & conveyance of genuine shock in this picture that I will it be able to remove from my memory. It is probably the most memorable film I will see all year.
