Such a cute and beautiful movie. The animation is seamless and amazing. I love that this really is about a bunch of different animals who become unlikely friends looking out for the safety of one another. Notably, it is the bird who saves his fellow wayward animal friends then sacrifices himself in the attempt and eventually “ascends” into the afterlife. He has done good.
On a deeper level, there’s something to be said about the push and pull of land…

Watched it again after seeing all the Oscar buzz. I still stand by my rating and maybe would bump it up half a star. It’s a great movie (though not perfect) where you get to see a peek into someone’s life and you’re taken on this whirlwind of a story (much like Sean Baker’s Tangerine). A rewatch made the movie even funnier for me because I got to catch more of the comedic elements. After a certain point, the movie is just straight up chaotic and ridiculous in a funny way.

This was the worst A24 movie I’ve seen. At times it felt like reverse 50 Shades of Grey. Other times I was unsure what the plot was. I think it’s really meant to serve certain audiences and their kinks. Not me. I don’t like a bossy man. Even if it was meant to be kinky, it’s the least kinky movie. What’s up with the random glass of milk and the candy spitting? The whole situation they’re in is fucked up…
