  genuine lightning in a bottle for like an hour but man that ending... maybe i just need more time to sit with it but the ending takes things in the wrong direction. the campiness behind the violence disappears and the movie veers almost into torture porn territory. wish it could have maintained the katana-wielding parker posey vibes all the way through but alas...

  i love how this movie poses a million questions and answers none of them.

  wheres the rest of mystery inc? how did scooby and shaggy get hired as gym teachers with no experience? why are famous halloween monsters real now? why do they have kids? was the ghost dad the dad of the ghost girl when they were both alive? or did he die and have sex with a ghost woman who gave birth to a ghost baby? i can get behind the mummy having a functional penis, but ghosts are a bridge too far for me. why is shaggy wearing red now?

  movies based on mythology will always be so so special to me. and that includes the glossy modernized ones like the thor movies. in a way it feels like a continuation of the oral traditions that gave us these stories to begin with; instead of villagers gathered around a campfire (or something like that... you get the idea) we have writers, directors, actors, etc. speaking to an audience of moviegoers. 

  the myths today may not look like they did a thousand…
