    Netflix's deep pockets nor the Russo brothers can save The Electric State.
    It's the same thing all over again.

    Despite the grand cast, none of the acting goes beyond the superficial.

    Movies with robots can strike an emotional chord, but this one doesn't.
    Bummer.

    A (mini-)series on one of my alltime favourite stories: I was all in.

    And yes, despite not being a fan of Eddie Redmayne, I liked his somewhat subdued posture and refreshing multilingualism.

    I could appreciate the small references to the 1973 Fred Zinnemann film too — like that gorgeous white Alfa Spider.

    Then there's the engaging cinematograpy, the great soundtrack and Lashana Lynch's fierce look.

    But there's problems too. The family angle is implausible and the plot —with that setup…

    That point in history, the gargantuan pressure, the politics, the huge stakes and the enormous scientific innovations driven by all these iconic physicists: how do you capture that?

    If you have the ambition to ever pursue a career in movie making, you are obliged to study all the early Spielberg/Lucas collaborations.

    Because it's all there...
    Suspense, fantastic characters, humor, a superb setting, and a well thought out story. All of that combined with absolute craftsmanship of two of the most influential people in cinema in the last half century.
