The principal characters inner-turmoil is so expertly translated to every facet of the film leaving such a pervading sense of emptiness and longing and at every second I wanted to escape and leave that feeling behind. Then, when I expected the (stereotypically heroic) final act to begin, the movie cuts to black. Such a powerful use of symbolism and tone that sets up one of the most guttural endings I've ever experienced. If you want to make a statement, and make people change their preconceived notions about something through art, this is how you do it.

Wong Kar-Wai has such a gift of being able to pull that dreamy yet depressing sense of longing out of a characters soul and apply that intangible feeling to the entire film. Such a lush tapestry of emotion that leaves you feeling overstimulated and in awe of how so little does so so much. Soul crushing, yet never loses that ethereal quality that just makes you want to be in that world and experience everything yourself. A true work of art in need of more love.

This movie makes me feel so grateful to be alive and be able to experience art like this.

When I first read the book, this is what I pictured in my mind. It captures the essence of it perfectly.

I think Denis said that part one was the appetizer, and part two was the main course, and you can feel it.

    Thank you Denis.
