The Menu 2022
Ralph Fiennes is phenomenal in this! He and Anna had amazing chemistry with their back and forth throughout the film. However, I have to give it to the actors and actresses of the service team in the film - their flat effect with little emotion added a constant feel of unease throughout the film. A reminder to us who have worked in the service industry that we cannot seem fazed no matter what occurs. Overall, an interesting way to look at classism!

I see how this movie spawned a lot of Zombie/infection movie tropes. From the hospital wake up, to the close up tension shots, to the odd moments of silence and peace. Was a lot of fun! The only question I have, “why was Cillian Murphy naked so much in a zombie/infection movie?”. Definitely recommend for lovers of the zombie/infection genres. Looking forward to watching 28 weeks later next.

Black Christmas 1974
I usually run in the opposite direction of any film that is associated with the scary/horror genre (except sci-fi) but I wanted to explore the genre more as too many plot lines looked fun or really fucking cool. Thankfully I have a friend who is super knowledgeable in the scary/horror genre area and introduced me to this film. Glad I watched it! Was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Really enjoyed the camera work and the close up shots throughout the film to create tension and unease. Looking forward to exploring more films in this genre!

Love the rotoscope technique used in the film. I think it added a layer to the anxiety in the film. Went in not knowing what the film was about and was surprised at how sad the movie ended. Showing the damages of drug abuse, how systems take advantage of those who are addicted, of how society condemns addiction, and of how those who say they are there to help are part of the problem. Good film and worth a watch!
