I'd like to think we are all Mickey 17 (the 99% at least); completely expendable, only existing to produce and advance the agenda of the ruling class. We remain stuck in a vicious cycle, simply aiming to exist. However, some are lucky enough to discover their inner Mickey 18. Or, maybe it's just a curse, to become forever self aware of life's harsh realities, with no fairy tale ending in sight.
A touching coming of age story.
"I assumed it would always be here", was a tough and introspective line. It's so easy to take for granted special moments and places that exist now.
Nicolas Cage gave a phenomenal performance outside of his typical characters. His character was very moving and one that could be empathized with. This was the story of a man struggling with being the eternal observer throughout his life. Always perceived by family and peers as a someone who just exists, never the hero or achiever. An unlikely situation allows him step out of this observer role, but it doesn't manifest his actual intentions. Ultimately, we can't control how we are perceived by everyone around us, however, we can control how we impact those we love and are closest to us.
