I wouldn't have thought it would of been possible to tie in the Batman franchise with a trans experience, and be able to do so without the blessings of multi-billion corporations. But Vera Drew managed to do it, and that's commendable.
It's a bit of an acid trip at times, and much of the referential Batman humor spans over decades. But some genuine laughs came from this, and this movie is comfortable in its own chaos. 10/10 would concern my mom if she saw this.
At Roxie in 35mm. I adore this film. As much as some of the humor has aged poorly, it's still a cleverly quirky watch. The combo of deep philosophical exploration with crude humor is a formula that just works for me. I wish Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman collaborated again.
