It’s a bit sluggish, dated (but not as much as i expected) and it has no original ideas whatsoever, but also, James Spader is rocking that Light Yagami and Kurt Russell wears the Duke Nukem very well too.

Honestly, if a schlocky movie where aliens are behind the pyramids has a performance like Spader’s and “the US really should stop just bombing everything” as one if the main messages, it gets a heart from me!

I have not seen such an enthralling political action thriller in quite some time. Also I would like to see Aaron Pierre in every movie from now on, thank you.

Michael Bay must have spoken to an oracle back in 1998, because this feels like it was made to be watched in the form of 151 one-minute TikToks.

However, he was not informed of any other societal changes nor of the dangers of being exposed to this much Aerosmith.

This felt like Frank Herbert wrote a screenplay and somehow it ended up in the hands of Russ Meyer.

Crazy, very potent, a bit messy, but overall just incredible.

Also this has Charlotte Rampling playing a reverend mother 50 years before actually playing a reverend mother.

The final Trek movie I hadn’t seen and seeing as this was a notorious one, I expected to be let down massively. Luckily, this was just merely okay!  Hardy, who was an unknown at the time, really acts his guts out (quite literally), and there are some wonderfully touching moments, especially surrounding Data. Sure, it was quite dour, more focussed on action and did not have any classic “trekking” in it, but as a tragedy about a conflicted man featuring beloved characters, I think it is decent.

Dennis Hopper is always a treat, even in this mixed bag of a movie. Production-wise there is also a lot to enjoy and I do like the character arc for the Mariner (as well as Costner’s acting), but a lot of the script and the other acting is really tiring. Add to that a lot of weird tonal shifts, a dragged-out action scene to open the movie and some jarring, dated CGI and altogether it’s just kind of meh.

Now if Shelly would have maybe had a single line of dialogue, I could have felt a single thing.

This movie was only watchable because of its’ look (sometimes), some mildly funny oneliners, Ernie Hudson and Tony Todd’s acting and of course the soundtrack.

As eerie as The Wicker Man, albeit on the slower side, with an incredible score and a lot of very potent critique. I bet this one will stay with me for a good amount of time.
