Dan Gilroy’s directorial debut, Nightcrawler, presents thought-provoking issues through gritty, realistic visuals and a great performance by Jake Gyllenhaal. The film follows Lou Bloom, an unemployed self-starter, as he discovers “the underground world of Los Angeles freelance crime journalism.”

Weekend at Bernie’s (1989) was practically made to be the ultimate college student procrastination film. The movie itself starts off with one of its main characters struggling to get work done and actively seeking out distractions.

Bicycle Thieves was a well done movie. Its ability to shoot on location and capture the everyday struggles of a bellow middle class family was fantastic. Its combination of casting well developed actors with unprofessional extras, I believe helped bring out the complex environment that was post word war two Italy.
