This should have been more camp. Was turned off by how these women’s internal conflicts were explained through lazy fourth wall breaks, rather than showing their cognitive dissonance and eventual emancipation. Especially with Margot Robbie’s character that was not directly based on one person, the premise of the fundamental Christian having gay sex is great but this happening on her first workday just makes the motives of her character so hard to read and contradictive.

I watched this as an evening screening at Berlinale and was overcome with waves of sadness throughout the next day at work. The killing of the two-year old Mawda Shawri described in this film is heinous, but what broke me even more was the dehumanizing racism reflected in the lies the policemen fabricated after one of them shot her dead. Uncut Gems for Girls
Action comedy with a surprisingly high amount of genuinely funny moments. Mark Eidelsthein is great in this! The ending would have been so much stronger and more touching without the brief moment of attempted intercourse, it felt reductive to Anora’s character. Even more of a shame since the final scene took place in and managed to encapsulate the coziness of one of my all-time favorite settings, the heated-up interior of a running car amidst a snow storm.
