Just nabbed a copy of this upstate, remembered how flawless and ahead of its time it is. Top tier mockumentary/found footage horror. Watch out for Pipes
Bizarre and unsettling. You can tell it was the passion project of a troubled Getty scion — clunky in some ways, but way more interesting and creative than most stuff currently coming out of the A24 factory.
Generally well made, if over-stuffed. The first 40 minutes, especially, feel incredibly rushed.
Nolan-isms undermine it; stock characters, bad dialogue, and he slathers music over nearly every second.
But it still succeeds where it counts. The detonation scene, and Oppenheimer’s subsequent nightmares/hallucinations, are deeply unsettling and moving.
Easily his best, along with The Prestige
I'm told I'm supposed to like this because Batman is horny in this one, yet the entire movie was tepid and sexless. Bland, unfocused. Couldn't see a thing.
