  He was really doin whatever he wanted, which is admirable but not always interesting. A biting political satire of our current age this is not.m, but it is funny to think about why it was delayed 🤭

  I’m generously adding a half star to the Letterboxd review after some discussion of deliberate plot and pacing. Again, second act is good and plays to Nolan’s strengths. All of the acting was superior. But every point of critique that I have made can be rebutted with “it is from Oppenheimer’s perspective” or “it is Nolan’s style” — neither convincing me that this was enjoyable to watch.   Barbie™️ is rebranded. Incredible amount of movies referenced (red shoes, singin in the rain, toys, the truman show, even getting a little Kaufman in there maybe???), incredible script that allowed for both nonstop jokes and a structure that was unfussy and coherent. The last line may be an all-timer? I just find the nucleus of the thesis to be sophomoric and the feature-length advertisement to be distasteful. That is my prerogative. Rebrand worked; time for anorexia season, ladies!
