I watched this once before with my then girlfriend, many years ago, and watching again with her as my wife, it just brought everything this film conveys into the sharpest relief. As we sat on the couch and watched Joel desperately try and save the memory of Clem there was a painful lump in my throat and tears stinging my eyes.
A painfully beautiful film.

This was the second time I watched Hereditary, and I love it even more than I did upon first viewing. Watching Toni Colette brilliantly unravel while Alex Wolf is slowly tortured until finally throwing himself from a window before being possessed by Paimon is no less affecting upon second viewing. Knowing what signs to look for, and how it all ends going in gives an even more sinister feeling to the film. Truly a masterwork in "feel-bad" cinema, and one of my favorite horror films to date.

A well performed but ultimately middling horror flick that moves at a clip that ensures the story moves along, but also doesn't give any of the characters time to breathe and become acquainted with the audience. The concept of a ceramic arm that you shake hands with in order to commune with the dead is a cool idea that feels somewhat wasted in this film.
