Like falling into a steam punk meets haute couture photoshoot featuring horny baby Emma Stone. This missed the mark for me in a lot of ways but I did find Mark Ruffalo’s performance delightful.
I was craving a movie like this - early 2000s beautiful wealthy ppl trying to get one over on each other. Seems like a simpler, shinier, simultaneously more cynical and more hopeful time. There are also layers of big weird happening that keep it engaging and off-kilter. It hit the spot for me but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it unless you’re in the mood for this kind of movie.
Lady Bird isn’t perfect but it’s still a favorite of mine. It’s the first movie I saw that presented a retrospective take on the era of my childhood (way before Pen15). It made me feel old but in a good way, like The Circle Game. It made me feel tender thoughts towards my younger self. I saw it with my mom and cried.
