    The open mocking of the viewer and celebratory dancing on the grave of cinema (hell even dancing on the grave of superhero movies!) on display here is more grotesque than anything Deadpool can say or do. Never has a movie left me so angry about corporate consolidation of power, so I guess by that definition this gets an extra half star for having an artistic effect.

    Three Thoughts and Two Additional Thoughts:

    1) Buried away somewhere way deep in here is a far better action movie that manages to be fun and explore the social and psychological forces that drive someone to become a professional fighter and the impact of the trauma (both physiological and psychological) professional fighting inflicts on its participants after their careers. Not that that would be in keeping with the spirit of the OG Roadhouse, but clearly that wasn’t a priority anyway.…

    Third movie in the past year to give me a surreal feeling of being proud to work (or attempt to work) in entertainment. Or put another way, the type of thing you see and go “oh yeah! THAT’s what art is!”

    A stunning, grotesque, playful, and strange satire of the Disney fantasy (although it somehow feels diminishing to reduce it to that) elevated toward the sublime thanks to Emma Stone’s essentially perfect performance* and the beautiful use of Rococo aesthetics. …
