A superb well thought out who done it with great pacing and even better acting. The problem with a lot of these types of movies is they fall victim to lazy writing. For instance, they’ll need something to happen so that the protagonist can find something key to the story. To this end they’ll come up with some cheesy unlikely contrivance to accomplish this. Prisoners is not plagued by any such literary malaise. Like real life the characters solutions aren’t always pretty or well executed but they are believable.

The Quick and the Dead 1995
Stylistic, somewhat in the vein of a Sergio Leone film. The predictability and many cliche moments kind of did this movie in for me.

Modern Times 1936
A great period film that creates a pair of underdogs you’re anxious to root for. A hallmark of Chaplain’s films is great physical comedy and choreographed bits and this one does not disappoint. Chaplain is at his best in this film. He does a great job of creating empathy and a sense of connection with the main characters without beating you over the head with their plight. I love the movie’s theme from this time in America’s history…..Hope endures.
