I would like to preface this review by expressing that I dislike biopics as a genre of film. They encourage a “great man” narrative of history which is intrinsically reductionist, they inevitably leave out important elements of, and characters from, an individual’s life, and they are mostly celebratory accounts (especially when the individual concerned is alive and well and has a say in how they are depicted).
