This resonated in ways I didn't expect. I viewed it as a film about mental illness more than anything, and perhaps that's because I'm mentally ill and that's the prism I often interpret things through.

It doesn't deal in obvious babyface/heel dynamics, there isn't really a villain in the film beyond the shame one might feel, nor did it ever come across like a morality-tale judgmental of its characters. There are maybe questionable moments that are there just to move…

watched for the first time in a few years on my ipad while my girlfriend napped next to me last night. got up to smoke a cigarette (great cigarette smoking movie) around an hour in feeling kinda sad things aren't going well for frances and I can relate. but then came back to it post-smoke and sure enough I'm crying at the end. like, I'm just so happy for frances at the end.

I think this is really well crafted but is burdened by the narrative surrounding the subject changing so much in real time.
