Another fantastic flick from one of my favorite directors in Robert Eggers. The acting is phenomenal with some of my standout performances going to Depp, Ineson, and Skarsgard. I also thought the cinematography was incredibly well done with a lot of fantastic cuts and pans that helped drive the themes of connectedness in the narrative. My one small complaint is more of a personal preference than anything in that this film leaned more into jump scares than previous Eggers works…
This is a very well done version of a Dickens classic. The pacing felt a bit rushed at the end with the Ghost of Christmas yet to come section being truncated and rushed, but the actors' performances really shone here. In particular I loved Sims' take on Scrooge. I also thought the film captured the feel of Victorian London quite well which added to the charm.
3.75/5 (but we'll round up to 4 since it's Christmas)
