I really wanted to like this, because I love the firewatch-setting and I‘ve always been on the lookout (haha) for movies - especially horror movies - with that setting. But Jesus Christ, this was so fucking bad and tone-deaf!
What a shame.. But I would still recommend watching it, because it gets so ridiculous sometimes, it made me laugh.
Toxic beauty ideals, the social fetishism of youth, the devastating effect of ageing and decay, the responsibility of the younger self towards the older one and the destructive conflict between them.
The way this film handles these topics is very playful and amusing, but also insanely dull and painfully lacks any original ideas or insights that it could add to the discussion. Also it tries so very hard to be art and provoking and disgusting… But you know what? I fucking loved all of that.

I honestly had a lot of fun with this. There's candles or torches in pretty much every single shot, it's got weird techno beats in action scenes, Gimli does nothing except being a table in one scene, Legolas is a woman, Saurons Eye in the "magic bowl" is fucking hilarious, Gandalf gets lost between two shots - which the fellowship couldn't care less about - and there's completely random shots of "Tolkien" looking into the camera and smoking a pipe.…
There really is no reason for this movie to be that long. It's doesn't say much, has a very trivial and shallow plot, and besides, I don't like how it suggests that someone is only worth protecting if they make themselves useful. The words "shame of uselessness" are spoken (maybe a little different in Englisch, I've seen the German dub) - why can't you just protect someone because they need protection? Imagine if that principle was applied to war refugees.…
