Mixed feelings about this film. It does some things very well. The cinematography, the acting of the three main characters, and the tension that it slowly ratchets up are all done very well. However, other things are done poorly.

Just terrible. I'm ashamed to say I laughed a few times. The most complimentary thing I can say is the main actress parodies and absolutely nails Stewart's mannerisms and expressions from the Twilight movies, which is entertaining and funny in its own way.

To burn it all down, or hold fast to the American, uhh, Roman dream. I admit I wasn't expecting the contemporary sociopolitical commentary, not that this movie has anything profound to say in that regard that hasn't been said before. Peace and freedom good, civil war bad, cooperation good, greed and violence bad. Reminded me of The Ring and The Grudge, the idea of an unstoppable curse being passed from one to another. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for Lovecraftian or cosmic horror so this ticked some boxes for me - the unceasing and unknowable nature of the entity, the idea of slowly being driven mad as one desperately tries to unwind an unfathomable and horrific fate. Really loved the ending.
