    Promising Young Woman

    Banal and somewhat preachy, but at least I was entertained. I’m delighted that I won’t have to spend the next few months hearing the majority of people praising it. Not everything needs to be groundbreaking or make a new statement, but can we all agree that we need to wrap it up on treating things like they’re innovative when they truly aren’t?

    I like this movie okay and whatever, but Laney should’ve been fat and I needed to hear another beautiful actress play a role where she says she’s not beautiful like I need a hole in the head. Additionally, I hated the bit where Jesse’s out of breath just because he’s fat. Why are we acting like there aren’t fat athletes all over the world? 

    (But even if all fat people were unhealthy and unfit, it still wouldn’t be okay to do it. Like, genuinely, leave us alone.)

    I hated this movie more than Barbie as the Island Princess, which is the only pre-Dreamhouse Adventures Barbie movie that I hate.

    If people hadn’t treated this like the feminist gospel, I would’ve been fine with how basic this was in its feminism. If this came out in 1993, it would have been groundbreaking, but it’s 2023. This is how American Girl Dolls introduce feminism to children, not how a film made for adults should discuss it.
