Joker: Folie à Deux 2024
Turning the Joker into a musical had unlimited potential, with insane and wildly imaginative musical numbers.
But what we got are “songs” that feel like they’re about to lead into a full musical number, but then stop abruptly, as if it were too shy to fully commit. And for the musical numbers that do play out, they were uninspired and lacked the insanity and color that Joker is.
Similarly, it never fully committed to being a courtroom drama, and this results in a film that seems unsure of its identity, aimlessly trying to hit the necessary story plot points.
