  It is a great shame that a sensitive, insightful and brilliant little film like The Mudge Boy did not get a commercial theatrical release. Though falling into the category of "Queer Cinema" it is not representative of the genre in the purist sense of the word and certainly, as Brokeback Mountain was just two years later, would have been embraced by the general movie going public.
