This was a weird movie, but I liked it. Very odd pacing and tone. Matthau is playing against type here and he does well, as always. It's dark and funny and has some sweet moments too. I feel like it inspired some comedies that came out down the line.

The Thin Red Line 1998
I still don't think I'm a Terrence Malick guy, but this was a damn good movie. He's a total vibes director and I think that works significantly better for intense subjects like war. This one did a great job of exploring the decisions at the top affecting the soldiers underneath and the sheer futility of it all. The incredibly stacked cast didn't hurt either. Plus I enjoyed how little Adrian Brody talked.

Another interesting concept gets ruined for me by Jarmusch. This felt like if John Wick talked too much, but didn’t have anything interesting to say. The kills were pretty generic. The villains weren't threatening. I fell asleep watching it twice.

Generic Wes Anderson review:
I can’t stand Wes Anderson. I don't think he's funny. His stories are usually comprised of a dozen or so characters with a single quirky defining trait. Then he beats that trait into the ground while meandering through a weak story with distinctly colorful visuals.EDIT: Also it’s a stop motion children’s movie. Nothing else about my generic review has changed.
