  Interesting comparison with the similarly-themed The Lives of Others, which was made over 30 years later but also features a lonely, conflicted, morally ambiguous surveillance worker. For me, The Conversation works better on all fronts - the pacing, the character study, the mystery, and the atmosphere. Captured from start to finish
