The story was so intense and less difficult to comprehend in present day, which speaks to Lynch’s influence across the vast landscape of dreamy, identity stories since 1997. He taught us to feel more, judge less, and to let art wash over us. What a trip.

I forgot Richard Pryor made a cameo, too.

    ★★★½

Vox Lux is a flawed film that gets lost at sea in the depths of its own ambition. The mentorships of Lars von Trier’s ambivalent voiceover and biblical chapters, along with Michael Haneke’s grim study on the violent narrative of life is apparent.

But there is something special amidst the waves that speaks to director Brady Corbet preparing to cut his moorings from the European captains as he voyages solo toward the unique voice he discovers in The Brutalist.
