Unedited Footage of a Bear 2014
Pretty standard horror short film. The message was a bit confusing upon first watch, but looking back at it through the lens of addiction, it makes a lot more sense. Lotta humor with the drug warnings plastered on the screen for the entire 9 minute runtime.
Some really cool visuals with the shrinking and suburban landscapes and the lighting towards the end. The tension just didn’t payoff in a way I found too satisfying or scary.

This House Has People in It 2016
Dreamlike and unsettling, I love it. The use of surveillance footage is insanely creative and the cuts between different cameras adds an eerie, liminal effect.
Captures the “keep it in the family” dysfunctional dynamic with scary-accurate precision. Genuinely had a sinking feeling in my stomach while watching. The dialogue seems all too familiar, and the symbolism is haunting.
I feel like I’d need to see it at 4 AM on Adult Swim for the best watch experience.

Tall Girl 2 2022
Tall girl cures her schizophrenia through the power of song and dance. Enough blondes victimizing themselves that even the Hitler youth would feel outdone. Half a star because it’s not even funny in a bad way, it’s just bad.

I Saw the TV Glow 2024
Ambitious idea, but the execution falls flat. The queer horror element of never coming into your true self, the reverse coming-of-age story if you will, is brilliant. But the dialogue focuses more on telling the audience the message versus showing it, which comes off as awkward at times.
Some shots are too long for comfort. I’m sure this was intended to portray Owen’s dissociative state, but it ultimately makes the pacing of the movie feel off. I wish they’d made better use of the score by Alex G, but the classic A24 color grading at least makes it pretty to look at.
