There is something oddly comforting and relaxing about watching The Thing. I watch it just as much for the hanging out vibes as I do the horror vibes. And when I finish watching it, I always want to watch it again.

Watched this so I could listen to Chapo Trap House’s review episode, and can’t believe I actually finished it. Pretty boring. Hoping the Chapo guys say some funny stuff about it (or then I really wasted my time).

Edit: I’ve listened to the Chapo episode now (it’s decent), and when Felix said that this is a “liberal Decker” it was like my media consumption worlds were colliding because all I’ve been watching is Decker and On Cinema lately. If you’re curious the Chapo guys liked Zero Day about as much as I did.

The ending of this special—with the aliens and sci-fi sound effects, Tim crying and talking about forgiveness while Greg looks on angry—is a brand of surreal madness that only On Cinema could create. It’s really the perfect embodiment of the craziness of every Oscar special previous.

It took two days to finish this movie. When my girlfriend and I started it the second day she said, “do you think she’ll kill him now?” And I think that’s really the best takeaway. Fuck this movie and this dude. Punshible by death. Negative 10 stars.
